Gerald

What is America if not animal intrusion? Pictured is a possum who snuck into my garage three winters ago. My roommate was too scared to park her car next to him, and I didn’t have the heart to kick him out.

Gerald was gone the next morning. In the hustle and bustle of living, we see the creatures around us as pests. But when they grace me with their presence, I’m overjoyed.

A bat flying overhead, a deer crossing the road, a raccoon trifling through a dumpster, a possum holding my garage hostage. We are guests in their world, why shouldn’t they be guests in ours?
